Firm principal, Susan Schaefer Kliman, PhD, AIA has been practicing architecture for over 20 years. During that time she has worked for several firms on a broad range of projects, including educational facilities; military facilities; recreational facilities; municipal structures; historic preservation projects; commercial tenant improvements for retail, food service, medical and offices; religious facilities; and custom homes and residential remodels.
A native of Tucson, Arizona, Susan received her Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Cornell University, and her Master of Architecture and PhD in Arid Lands Resource Sciences from the University of Arizona. She has worked for firms in Washington, DC, Las Vegas, Nevada and Tucson, Arizona. She is a registered architect in Arizona, New Mexico, Sonora, Mexico, Maryland and Virginia, and holds a certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). She is also a LEEDTM accredited professional by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Susan has been very active in the community. Professionally, she served six years on the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, and has volunteered for NCARB for over eight years on multiple committees. She has been a member of the American Institute of Architects for over 20 years, serving as president of AIA/Southern Arizona Chapter in 2006 and as a member of the Executive Board for four years. She was the local chair for the 2007 AIA/SAC Sustainability Design Assistance Team (S/DAT) grant received from the AIA National. She has represented the design community on several building industry and business community boards, and been a member of a variety of professional organizations. Susan has also been a member of numerous community organizations, and has served on many community boards.
